The convent of St. Joseph was erected in 1749 by the Capuchin Friars of Our Lady of Mercy, on the banks of the stream known as the Comedy of Manatees. In the following decade, with the expulsion of the Jesuits in Brazil, the building of large walls, built with stone and stick to fish, housed pottery, powder magazine, barracks, hospital, public jail and the prison off San Jose-East in 2000. Fully restored, the secular building was reopened in October 11, 2002, with designation of St. Joseph Liberto, which operate the Gems Museum of Pará, Polo and the House of Artisan Jeweler. It is a true showcase of jewelry and crafts produced in Pará, and Cultural and Tourism.ISABELA E ADRIELE
